Bengaluru, May 26, 2020: As soon as News Tonic exposed certain Mafia controlled by opposition parties including Indian National Congress indulging in Human Trafficking under the guise of supplying migrant labourers across India, the Uttar Pradesh Government, has barred hiring of UP workers without seeking permission from the Government. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s initiative has a basis on the safety and security for the UP workmen hired by other states. He said the states that need to hire UP manpower have to seek prior sanction from the proposed “Migration Commission”
“The migration commission will work in the interest of the migrant workers. If any other state wants UP’s manpower, they cannot take them away just like that. Those states will have to do it with the consent and permission of the UP government. The way our migrant workers were ill-treated in those states, the UP government will take their insurance, social security in its hands now. The UP government will stand with them wherever they work, whether in Uttar Pradesh, other states or other countries,” he said.
The NEWS TONIC in its expose May 24, revealed a well-heeled Mafia headed by political parties including Congress, Left Parties and other political parties, often ill-treated migrant labourers, and ultimately sold them to potential employers as slaves without extending any social security measures.
Following up on his assertion, Yogi issued the directives to constitute the commission at a meeting of his Team-11 convened to review the lockdown situation here.
“Yes, chief minister Yogi Adityanath has asked for making efforts on a war-footing to set up the migration commission. The commission will be set up in the next few days in accordance with the existing provisions of law,” said chief secretary RK Tiwari.
A legal opinion on the migrant workers being employed by other states, stated that the Constitution of India provides a fundamental right allowing every citizen free movement and the right to do business anywhere in India. But the state government can enact any law for welfare of migrant labourers.
A UP Government source stated that an expert committee comprising of legal experts will create a robust legal frame work for the proposed Migration Commission.
