The study published in the Lancet estimates that more than 20 percent of the world’s population have underlying health condition that puts them at risk for severe Covid-19 illness if they contact the virus. These people either have type 2 diabetes or heart disease, chronic kidney disease, chronic respiratory disease and a range of other chronic condition. A team of experts from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine conducted the study. Countries with younger generation like Africa have less health risk despite high HIV prevalence. In Europe average ages are high and one third of them have atleast one health condition, may be less resilient.
In India 10,667 new Covid-19 cases and 380 deaths were reported in last 24 hours, taking the country’s tally to at 343,091. The death toll is 9,900 according to Union health ministry.
