Mumbai : while Covid-19 cases in different parts of Maharashtra and in Mumbai are rising alarmingly, Dharavi has given a hope to survive against the virus. Due to aggressive efforts taken by the Maharashtra government and Brihanmumbai Muncipal Corporation (BMC) the growth rate of the virus-infected people reduced from 4.3% in May to 1.02% in June.
The health ministry lauded the civic body’s efforts to bring down the Covid-19 cases. In Dharavi, 80% of the population uses common toilet. 8 -10 people lives in a hut which measures ten by ten feet with narrow lanes. Maintaining social distancing is not possible here. Even in this extreme situation, the BMC adopted the model of 4 Ts- tracing, tracking, testing and treating. This Covid-19 strategy by BMC and people’s courage to fight against the virus have given new hope to India to tackle the virus.
