New Delhi : Rate of diesel has become dearer than petrol in Delhi for the first time. Oil companies have raised the price of diesel for the consecutive 18th day. Meanwhile the rate of petrol remains unchanged.

Diesel prices always kept lower than petrol as it was widely consumed by public transporters and farmers. Centre and state governments in India always maintained less tax on diesel. When fuel pricing was deregulated in October 2014 the gap between the petrol and diesel tax became less. However states still maintained low tax on diesel in view of public concern. Now in Delhi,it taxes 64% of petrol price and 63% of diesel price.
