Girl who lives on footpath scores 68% in class 10 and gets flat from Muncipal Commission
Indore, Madhya Pradesh : Pratibha Pal, Muncipal commissioner granted 1 bhk flat to Bharti Khandekar, daughter of daily wage labourers who scored 68 percent in her class 10 exams. The girl lives in Indore on the footpath with her parents who are daily wage labourers. Her father said “ in the morning I go to work and my wife works as a sweeper in a school. Bharti manages her younger brothers. Then she studies till 1 o’clock at night, both of them wake up turn by turn to guard Bharti,” said Dasharath Khandekar. Conquering all odds Bharti wants to become an IAS officer.
Prashant Dighe of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Indore said “ commissioner took cognizance and gifted the girl a 1 bhk flat. Commission also made arrangements so that the girl gets further education free of cost. Table, chair, books, cloths were also provided to her”.
Bharti owed her success to her parents and thanked her teachers and mentors. She thanked administration for gifting her house and making her education free. Her mother said” our daughter is like Goddess Lakshmi to our family. We are happy that our child passed 10 exams. Our children study in government schools. My daughter studied really hard. I and my husband are illiterates. I earn Rs 2,000 per month”.
