Cyber criminals have developed a fake oximeter app which claims that it reads oxygen levels with the phone light and camera while others seek fingerprints to check the oxygen levels. Cyber criminals have developed these apps to steal the people’s data. They obtain biometric data like fingerprint and use this for e-wallet transactions and as an alternative to passwords and screenlock. Personal photos and data can be stolen. People fall to this trick to save money.
People are using these apps to check their oxygen level to save money. They think that if the oxygen level is high they can skip the doctor’s visit. If it’s low then they can visit the doctor, informs Aanant Prabhu G, cyber law and security trainer, and professor at Sahyadri college of Engineering and Management.
Before installing these apps people should check the developer,ratings,reviews, and bugs. During pandemic time fraudsters use these fake apps to test,treat and cure the disease. People fall to this prey and click malicious links. Cyber criminals are exploiting the fear of public in this pandemic time.
