New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah appealed the youth to read Bal Gangadhar Tilak’s autobiography to solve the problems of our life on the account of his 100th death anniversary on Saturday. Even today Tilak’s thoughts are relevant today. He further added his words” Swaraj is my birthright and I shall have it”, are written in golden letters of our history. To know about our history and freedom struggle, he appealed the youth to read books on Tilak.

Bal Gangadhar Tilak started weekly newspaper Kesari. He criticized the British rule in India and it’s policies, through his articles. He also worked as a teacher, social reformer, playwright, and lawyer. Mahatma Gandhiji called him the maker of modern India.Tilak was the first leader of the Indian Independence Movement. He was given the title ‘Lokmanya’. Nehru called him ”‘father of the Indian revolution’.
