The Forest Research Centre in Haldwani (Uttarakhand) has developed a thematic garden inspired by Lord Ram’ 14- year exile. During the exile time, Lord Rama encountered innumerable plant species with various medicinal properties and usages. Lord Ram came across different types of forests from Chitrakoot (tropical deciduous forest) to Dronagiri (alpine forest). Valmiki has described around 139 species in the epic. The thematic garden contains 60-65 species of plants including shrubs, trees, and herbs which he encountered while travelling on his exile term. The garden named as ‘Ramayana Vatika’ spreads across 1 acre of area. The garden was inaugurated on July. Due to lockdown, the garden visit was restricted to the forest officials. After the lockdown the park will be opened to school children, scholars and researchers before the public visit.
