Srinagar : A leading doctor who treated many covid positive patients for 4 months, died in the hospital in Kashmir after he contracted the disease on Sunday morning. Mohammed Ashraf Mir, a senior doctor and resident of Pampore( Pulwama district) passed away at the SKIMS hospital. People in Pulwama district mourned his death.
In the process of treating the patients from the past 4 months, he contracted the virus. He was admitted to the hospital with bilateral pneumonia. Later he was shifted to ICU since he could not maintain oxygen saturation. He passed away in the hospital.
IMA said in a statement,” As per the latest data collected by the IMA, our nation has lost 196 doctors, out of which 170 of them are above the age of 50 years, with general practitioners attributing to around 40 percent of it”. IMA points out that general practitioners contract the disease easily, because patients with common Covid symptoms like fever and breathing difficulties, first visit them for the treatment. The medical body has written to PM Narendra Modi, requesting him to ensure adequate care for doctors and their families, and extend state sponsored medical and life insurance facilities to doctors in all sectors.
