Over 83.02 lakh new job cards have been added in this financial year to migrant workers who lost their earnings due to covid-19 pandemic and returned to their villages. In the year 2019-20, 64.70 lakh new job cards were issued. This year 28.32 job cards have been increased to help the migrant workers. The most benefited states are Uttar Pradesh(21.08 lakh), Bihar(11.22 lakh), West Bengal(6.82 lakh), Rajasthan(6.58 lakh) and Madhya Pradesh(5.56 lakh), which also constitutes a large number of returning migrants. Under MGNREGA, every rural household is entitled to a job card in which their name, photographs of all adult members have attached. Using this job card they can demand and receive work. If a household has migrated to cities permanently, or moved to a different gram panchayat, or if proved a fake, the job card will be canceled. 13.97 lakh job cards were deleted in 2019-20. 10.39 lakh NREGA job cards have been canceled in this year 2020.
