The state government is working towards reforming public healthcare system in the state despite the financial crunch due to pandemic. Our aim is to build medical college in every district, said Dr.K.Sudhakar.
CM B.S.Yediyurappa inaugurated ‘Arogya Soudha’, the newly constructed Administrative Building Complex of Helath and Family Welfare Department at Magadi road in Bengaluru.
Addressing the event, Dr.Sudhakar said that CM BSY is revitalizing the health sector despite financial crunch due to pandemic. In the last one and half year CM has approved 4 new medical colleges out of which 3 are already functioning. Tomorrow Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute od Medical Sciences will be inaugurated.
There are 18 govt medical colleges in the state and 9 districts have no govt medical college. Govt is planning to construct medical colleges in these 9 districts also under PPP or other suitable model. There will also be district hospitals and super specialiyy hospitals attached to these colleges, Minister said.
Our government has shown its commitment during Covid-19 pandmeic. Before pandemic there were only about 5,000 to 6,000 oxygenated beds. In last few months we have increased it to about 30,000 beds. Special allowance is being given to corona warriors, doctors and frontline staff at a cost of Rs.125 crores, Minister added.
About 1.5% of GDP is being spent on healthcare in our country. PM Narendra Modi has assured that healthcare spending eill be increased to 2.5% of GDP. Ayushman Bharat is being imolemened in Karnataka and health cover is available to all including APL, Dr.Sudhakar added.
