A few weeks ago Hanumanthavva with his son was sleeping with her son in Gnana Jyothi Nagar shed. A thief entered her shed to steal gold chain. He beat with the stone on the face of the mother and son duo and left the spot by taking 30 gram gold chain. The son died on the spot. Neighbours called the police. Soon, Inspector of Gnana Bharathi Police station, Lakshman Naik arrived at the spot.
Grievously injured Hanumanthavva was taken to the hospital by Lakshman Naik and his staff to NIMHANS. She responded to the doctor’s treatment there. Then they referred her to Bowring hospital.
Doctors refused to give treatment without money. Lakshman Naik collected Rs 2 lakh from various organisations and builders. He told the doctors he will arrange the medical bills and give her the best treatment.
on knowing the gesture of Laksman Naik, Vande Mataram organisation president Shivkumar Naik came to the Police station to honour him. He refused it and said if Hanumanthavva recovered from the injuries that will be his biggest honour. Lakshman Naik is from a rural area of Chitradurga. A good-hearted person, on seeing the plight of Hanumanthavva not only he took her to the hospital cared his level best.
He would come to the hospital daily and took care of her. But she could not survive. After knowing she is dead, he cried uncontrollably that he could not take better care of her. If she was admitted to a better hospital she could have survived. Now her other child has become an orphan. Naik feels responsible that he could not save Hanumanthavva.
