For the first time, a train run by only women crew in Indian Railways
In a tweet, Vineet Abhishek, senior divisional of Western Railways said, “One more step towards gender equality and women empowerment. Today Mumbai Central Div of Western Railway created history by running a freight train with all female guard and crew from Vasai Rd till Vadodara.” Few days back Indian Railways increased posts for women in its workforce. More than 13 lakh workers are employed in the Indian Railways in which women workforce constitutes about 1 lakh.
Loco pilot Kumkum Nagendra, Assistant Loco pilot Udita Verma and Guard Aakanksha Ray became the first ever all women crew to run a freight train in the history of Indian railways. They took charge of the train on Tuesday.
