Bengaluru, February 22: Expressing solidarity with the Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa and dissuade the attempts to target the leadership and BJP government Mines & Geology Minister Murugesh R Nirani termed rebel BJP MLA Basannagouda Patil Yatnal as the B-team of Congress and challenged him to get re-elected after resignation as party MLA.
“Yatnal is repeatedly attacking his own party leaders than the Opposition leaders. I condemn him for disrespecting senior leader such as the CM. The party higher-ups will take decision on his conduct” the minister said in a joint presser with Small scale industries minister CC Patil & scores of party legislators here at Vidhana Soudha on Monday.
The press meet was called by the ministers and the BJP legislators belonging to Panchamasali Lingayats in the backdrop of Yatnal attacking the CM and the top seer of the community for taking few unilateral decisions regarding the community.
Mr Nirani being most vocal among all others, challenged Yatnal to get re-elected after resignation. “Yatnal got elected as MLA because of Yediyurappa’s charisma and became Union minister due to his support. Yatnal has no moral right to criticise the Chief Minister. Let him prove his worth by resigning as BJP MLA and get re-elected as an Independent MLA from his constituency”, Nirani challenged.
Yatnal during Panchamasali Lingayat rally on Sunday had demanded Nirani & CC Patil’s resignation if the CM did not take pro-active steps to include their community under 2A reservation of the OBC list. Responding to this, the mines minister said Yatnal has no right to seek his resignation, “ I was elected by the people of my constituency and became minister with the blessings of CM and party high command.”
Referring to the Sunday’s rally & Yatnal’s outburst, Mr Nirani maintained that the convention was held with the sole purpose of pressing the demand for 2A reservation but some people misused the platform for their selfish and political ends and tried to mislead the community. “Yatnal and few other leaders made the rally look a Congress rally. It is condemnable. The Chief Minister has already instructed the Backward Classes Commission which is a quasi-judicial (quasi-government) body to conduct study and submit report on our demand” he said.
Mr Nirani noted that It was not fair to set deadline for the government as the reservations can’t be done in one go. “The government will have to follow certain rules and regulations and established procedures before taking a decision. We trust the Chief Minister; the seer should stop his dharna and stop warning government.”
The ministers and MLAs said that they have been making honest efforts to include their community under 2A category. They expressed hope that the Backward Classes Commission would submit an affirmative report and assured that the Panchamasali community would be brought under 2A category in due course of time.
SEER MOVE CRITICISED
Expressing displeasure over conduct of Kudalasangama math pontiff Basava Jayamruthyunjaya Swamy, minister Nirani and CC Patil said the seer should conduct himself as highly esteemed person and should not dance to the tunes of former Congress MLA Vijayanand Kashappanavar and Basanagouda Patil Yatnal.
“What was the necessary for the seer to announce Kashappanavar as president of Akhila Bharata Lingayat Panchamasali Mahasabha when such decision was not taken by the rightful body of the community. The seer has no right to take such decision,” the ministers said.
Criticising Vijayanand Kashappanavar, BJP leaders sought to know the contribution of the former Congress leader towards Panchamasali community’s cause. “He is a self declared leader of the community. Before Vijayanand became legislator, his father was MLA & former minister. The entire family never did anything for the Panchamasali Lingayat’s cause to include under 2A tag. Apart from making empty rhetoric, there is no contribution from him,” Nirani attacked.
Batting for a person with clean image as president of Mahasabha, Nirani said Vijayanand has many FIRs against him and was not eligible to hold the post. “He tried to manhandle a cop recently and in the past. He has indulged in immoral activities and how can such a person head the outfit of our community. An apolitical person should head Panchamasali Mahasabha”, Nirani added.
