Arindam Chaudhuri of IIPM arrested for 23 crore tax evasion
New Delhi : Arindam Chaudhuri, Director of Indian Institute of planning and Management(IIPM) and also a movie producer was arrested by the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) South Delhi Commissionerate on Friday under Section 89 of the Finance Act which enlists penalties for evading payment of service tax. His colleague Gurudas Malik Thakur has also been arrested under the same offences and sent to 14 days judicial custody. The duo has been detained in the case which involves an amount of Rs 23 crore.
Before 10 years ago he was a regular on television channels, and ads about IIPM were frequent on print media. He would lure gullible students who shelled out lakhs for fake degrees. The unscrupulous actor Sharukh Khan was the brand ambassador for this Institute. He spent so much on ads that everyone was fooled. He then looted all of them in the name of management degrees.
In 2015, IIPM went defunt after it was found that the institute was offering MBA degrees to students on false pretences.
