The 65th city civil and sessions court on Tuesday found Madhukar Reddy (36) guilty of attacking a bank staffer, Jyothi Uday with a lethal weapon inside an ATM kiosk of Corporation Bank and sentenced him to 12 years in prison.
On November 19, 2013, the accused Madhukar Reddy had attacked a bank employee Jyothi Uday when she was inside an ATM kiosk withdrawing money. The crime took place in Corporation Bank ATM at Corporation Circle in Bengaluru. The entire incident that was captured on a CCTV camera had left people in shock given the brutality of the crime.
Eight years after the brutal attack,the city civil and session court on Tuesday sentences 12 years concurrent imprisonment punishment to Madhukar Reddy for assaulting bank manager Jyothi Uday inside an ATM on the busy NR junction on Nov 19 2013.
The court convicted Reddy for Roberry causing grievious hurt and also for destroying evidence.
The court also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 and directed the district legal service authority to compensate the victim suitably .
Reddy counsel pleaded the court to give minimum punishment as his mother is bedridden and no care taker,but the court said considering the brutality and the criminal background of the accused awarded maximum punishment.
Reddy soon after attacking Jyothi Uday snatched her purse containing small amount of cash,debit card and her Id card.
The victim pleaded to let her go but the accused attacked her with machette carried in his bag, multiple times and escaped leaving her profusely bleeding .
The entire incident was captured on the CCTV footage which went viral creating fear psychosis among the people visiting ATMs.
The city police taking strong objections formed as many as 15 teams to track him down who after three years of search filed B report .
The then City Police Commissioner even cracked the whip of the ATMs who have no security measures and even ordered jurisdictional police to shut them down,until security measures are in place .
Reacting to the punishment,Ms.Jyothi Uday told reporters,that she respect the court verdict but hope that such incident should not repeated.
Reddy who was on the run arrested by Madanapalli police in 2017 after a policeman while on patrolling duty identified him while he was moving suspeciously.
