Bengaluru: On September 13th, the Karnataka Congress staged a unique protest against the BJP government by dramatically entering the Vidhan Soudha by bullock-cart. It was done to highlight the back-breaking price rise of essential commodities as well as anti-people policies that are unilaterally implemented without consultation.

On Monday, senior Congress leaders led by KPCC President Shri DK Shivakumar and CLP leader Shri Siddaramaiah entered the Vidhan Soudha premises on a bullock cart.

Shri DK Shivakumar began his bullock-cart journey from his residence in Sadashiva Nagar, while Shri Siddaramiah joined from his Kumara Park residence. MLC Shri SR Patil, KPCC Working President Shri Eshwar Khandre, KPCC Working President Shri Ramalinga Reddy, and other senior Karnataka Congress leaders also took part in the protest.

The people have been severely hit by anti-people policies of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Shri Shivakumar declared. Without any consultation or discussion in the assembly, the BJP government is constantly raising the prices of essential commodities. In response, hundreds of Congress leaders and party workers participated in this symbolic protest. Speaking to party workers, senior leaders assured them that the party would be protesting vehemently against several other policies of the BJP.

Shri DK Shivakumar, from his bullock-cart, said, "The BJP government is pickpocketing the people and taking away their rights. During these troubled Covid-19 times, the BJP both at the Centre and in the State need to be solving people's issues. Instead, they are pouring salt on existing wounds by increasing the prices of essential commodities".

"This government has no eyes or ears. They are insensitive to people's problems. In this regard, the Karnataka Congress will be protesting in the assembly. Outside the assembly the party will also raise and oppose BJP's erroneous policies", added Shri DK Shivakumar.

Bengaluru Police tried to stop Congress leaders traveling by bullock-cart from entering the Vidhana Soudha. The police resisted the symbolic march and protest only to please their political masters.

The Congress party leadership strongly condemns the police for its action against the democratic ethos of our nation. Speaking against the government and the police, Working President Shri Eshwar Khandre, MLA of Gadag Shri HK Patil, MLA of Chittapur Shri Priyank Kharge, MLA of Khanapur Smt Dr. Anjali Nimbalkar, and MLA of Jewargi Shri Ajay Dharam Singh also protested in front of Vidhana Soudha.

CLP Leader Shri Siddaramiah expressed anger at the police trying to block Congress leaders from entering Vidhana Soudha by bullock cart. "There is no law to stop us from entering Vidhana Soudha on a bullock cart", he said, warning them that he would file a motion on the floor of the assembly. Later, Shri DK Shivakumar and Shri Siddaramiah joined by other leaders of the party entered the building on a bullock cart itself.

Addressing the media near the statue of Kengal Hanumanthiah in Vidhana Soudha, senior Congress leaders raised slogans against the incumbent government. They also promised to raise the issue on the floor and assured to keep the protest going for the rest of the session.
