Experts have opined that second wave is likely to peak by May first week in the state and slowdown by the tend of May. We have to take measures accordingly, said Health and Medical Education Minister Dr.K.Sudhakar.

Spending to media after the meeting with TAC, minister cautioned that we must be vigilant till end of May. If there is surge in cases, our health infrastructure will be over burdened. Experts of TAC have suggested ti be vigilant at borders and thoroughly test incoming travellers from high case load states. TAC has been directed to come up with a report which will be submitted to CM. Further measures will be taken after discussion with CM, said Minister.

Private hospitals have extended their support to government. We were among the first in the country to start tele-ICU and private hospitals have also utilised it. We need to further strengthen this system. Suggestions which impact economic activities will not be considered. However experts have suggested that we must curb large gatherings and crowds that spread infection, said minster.

*Women are role model*

State has received 72 lakh doses of vaccine. So far about 61 lakh doses of vaccine have been administered in the state out of which 53% are administered to women. Women have emerged role model when it comes to participation in vaccination drive, said minister.

Mahatma Jyotirao Phule dedicated his entire life for empowerment of women and downtrodden through education and social transformation. Dr.Babasaheb Ambedkar is the architect of our Constitution and crusader of social justice. PM has given a clarion call to celebrate Vaccine Festival during their birth anniversaries. We must not let politics, religion, caste or language into this vaccination drive. Therefore we have administered vaccine to women belonging to different faiths today as a symbolic gesture, said minister.

*PM lauded Karnataka's efforts*

*PM Narendra Modi spoke to CM BSY and appreciated Karnataka's efforts to contain second wave. PM has suggested to focus on micro containment zones. We will take measures towards it, said Dr.K.Sudhakar*

I will continue to make surprise visits to hospitals and vaccination centres. Irregularities and improper facilities won't be tolerated. If people are aware and co-operate there is no need for lockdown or curb on economic activities, he added.
