Heart touching love story from Kerala

Nursing student Jyoti Kundu lost her right arm while saving an unknown person in a bus accident in Chattisgarh. Being a nursing student she just could not be a mere spectator towards this accident. On January 3, 2010, Jyoti had been travelling home from her college hostel. Vikas, who was on his way to a CSIF camp, sat in the row ahead of her and was sleeping when she saw a speeding truck heading straight into the bus. Realizing what was going to happen, Jyoti pushed Vikas away on time, saving his life, but her right arm crushed between the bus and the truck. Initially, Vikas didn’t know that Jyoti has lost her arm trying to save him. When the co-passenger told him about this incident he was moved. And asked her why she did take such a huge risk. She said being a nursing student she just could not look away. Vikas felt responsible and took better care of her and paid hospital bills also. He proposed her to marry him. But her family opposed this marriage proposal. Then she walked out of her home and travelled to Palakkad along with Vikas. In April 2011, they got married. Now the couple have two children aged 8 and 4. With Vikas’s CISF job taking him across the country, Jyoti stays at home taking care of their little children.

Jyoti now 30 years old is contesting as a BJP candidate from the Kollangode block panchayat in Kerala’s Palakkad district. As she addressed people in her fluent Malayalam, she gets a great response from the people. She says January 3, 2010, accident had cut short her dream of serving people as a nurse. “ if elected, I hope that dream will blossom in a new way.”
